Literature Text

Stumbled into the corner bar
Red & black slippers with a white robe
Too lethargic to change
The sight of me here stays the same

A daiquiri filled with DonQ
$5 or $100 give off the same hue
The bartender’s hand on my shoulder
I realize I am now older

The daiquiri is taking effect
The best kind of therapy
Have forgotten my troubles
I tip under the desk

When I come home tonight
Her image in my eyes
I slump down
And I cry

Why, oh why must I cry?
I did the best with the lies
Just one too many sighs
The corner bar is open for my demise
Here's the fifth in the series of Sad Sinatra Songs.

I was inspired to write this one in a unique situation. I rather like I figured out how to use the references to rum and his apathy.

I actually showed this piece to a friend of mine who is very old and had a difficult life. He said that he was able to relate to this poem quite a lot. Which is quite flattering since I have NO experience with this kind of lifestyle or drinking for that matter.....
